US Open - History, Format and Previous Winners

The US Open Championship was established in 1895. It is the second oldest Major Championship and is rotated around a number of course in America.

The US Open Championship is played in June and the course is always set up to ensure accurate driving is at a real premium.

Courses on the US Open rosta are, in the main, tight Parkland style courses. However, Shinnecock hills and Pebble Beach are among US Open courses with a links feel to them.

The tournaments have been dominated by Americans over the years. In recent history, Tiger Woods has taken the US Open Championship title twice, whilst Ernie Els is also a two time Champion.
