| In Paul Lawrie's next phase of tips and drills he talks to us about the swing plane and set up to improve your golf game.
| Paul Lawrie: |
STEP 1
1. At address I make sure that I bend from the waist. I try to feel athletic by getting my weight on the balls of my feet so that I am in perfect balance and ready to swing the club back.
2. I swing the club away from the ball by using my chest to initiate the move away. I try to keep my hands passive as I turn my chest and back.
STEP 2
3. At the halfway back position I have a very simple thought of setting my wrists so that the shaft of the club points at a point on the ball to target line.
4. From my halfway back position I simply continue to wind my back to the target whilst trying to sit into my right thigh to reach this top of backswing position.
STEP 3
5. I reach my halfway down position by unwinding my body from the ground up. I get the feeling that the left knee starts the downswing then the hips follow then the chest and finally the club comes last.
6. At impact I have continued to unwind my body and I use the feeling that my head is high and my hands are low. If I unwind my body correctly I generate nearly all my club head speed from my halfway down position to my impact position.
STEP 4
7. If I finish in a balanced position like this I know I have made a good swing. This is just the end product of unwinding the body correctly and I try to ensure that I finish on my left side and up on my right toe with the club shaft angled on the same line as my ears.
